CHAPTER 16

DEAN

Ihad no intention of hooking up with Nora tonight. We were going to have dinner, then I would walk her to her car, watch her get into her house, and maybe if I were really lucky, I would get to first base.

Instead, she sits straddled across my lap. We are both spent and catching our breaths. Who would have thought that at this age I would still be having quickies in the back seat of a car?

Not that I’m complaining.

After a few moments, Nora climbs off me and plops herself on the backseat, reaching down and tapping on the floor in the dark trying to find her clothes.

I don’t bother moving yet, content with watching her. The flush in her cheeks from the exertion of sex has me mesmerized.

She is breathtaking.

“You know we can’t keep on doing this,” she mumbles once her pants are back on.

Her words shouldn’t surprise me. As far as she knows, I’m a douchebag with serious commitment issues.

“I thought we got past that,” I burst out. I’m not usually the one who has to work all that hard for a women’s attention.

But in this case, I will do whatever is necessary.

“We did and I’m all for being friends but… I just don’t like the back and forth of casual hookups,” she tells me wearily, looking me in the eyes to show me how much she means it.

It’s true that I haven’t always been emotionally available. Though I want to be. For her, I will do anything.

Taking a deep breath, I tell her what I probably should have told her ages ago.

“There’s some stuff in my life that makes it hard for me to be comfortable in a serious relationship. While I can’t promise you the commitment that you want right now, I would at least like another shot at being friends-with-benefits. This time with an emphasis on the friends part.” I’m at a loss what else I could possibly say.

Her expression remains neutral as she stares at me. I hold my breath as I wait for her reaction.

“I don’t know if that will work for me,” she finally mutters, and I can feel the way my heart squeezes in my chest.

While I’m not looking for anything serious right now, it’s clear to me that I’m addicted to Nora. No one else compares.

“Are you sure?” I ask softly as my head leans forward to press a kiss to her cheek.

It’s soft, nothing hot and heavy like we had been doing before.

I keep going, brushing her other cheek, forehead, nose, lips. Then I lazily trail a line of kisses down her neck.

“I…” she huffs, the sound of her soft pants invading my ears and filling me with hope.

I know I make her feel good.

“What, butterfly? Tell me,” I urge, gently sucking the skin at her collarbone.

I could do this all night. Slowly driving Nora over the edge until she is begging for my cock seems like more than an adequate way to spend a night. Then, after I rock her world and let her get some rest, I would do it all over again.
